Jo Maulbeck is a 24 year old singer/songwriter based in the NYC area. She has circulated such venues as The Sidewalk Cafe and The Bitter End in New York City and Tammany Hall and Beatnik's Bar in Massachusetts, as well as several Universities across the Northeast. She began writing lyrics when she was 14 and after six years of performing, established her solo career in 2008.

Inspired by artists such as Joanna Newsom and Bjork, Jo chose to showcase her less-than-traditional singing voice and pursue a career in music, obtaining a degree in music/composition from Clark University. Through classical/operatic vocal training under the tutelage of Marina Shemesh and classical/folk guitar training with guitar virtuoso Steve Girardi, she learned to take advantage of her vocal chords, stretch the quality of her distinct sound, and pair her voice with a subtle yet compelling strum.

Jo's childhood and unusual adolescence inspire much of the appealing peculiarity of her lyrics, and the stories she creates twist the mind as much as the heart. Her music speaks to subcultures: college students, hipsters, art-types, dorks, misfits, the queer community, and indie lovers of all kind.
